My wonderous observation skills!
Summer days in Florida are all the same. They start out all sunny and humid, it tricks you into thinking it's a good beach day. You finally get all ready for the beach, and then it starts pouring like it's never going to stop. Needless to say, it was pouring today when I wanted to go outside and observe, so I had to stay under my covered lanai. I pulled a chair up close to the pool enclosure netting stuff (in the covered part of my lanai of course), and I guess...observed! It's funny how you can look at the same things every day and never really notice them. I usually just overlook my backyard, but since I was actually looking this time, I noticed things I never had noticed before. People just pass by things and don't even notice the beauty or the detail. It's like they're looking, but not really seeing. I never noticed how many colors my backyard has in it. It's full of different kinds of flowers outlining the screen enclosure, different bushes and such a variety of plants make it hard to see everything without really sitting and examining everything. Since it was raining, there weren't many animals out. Usually in my backyard, there's a thousand birds and some cats that live in our yard that we feed. The branches of the trees were dripping with rain, and blowing in the wind, getting a few rain drops on my arm. The sky was rather dark, the clouds in the sky looked swirly and vicious. I heard thunder, and saw a small flash of lightning in the distance. It continued to rain and I watched the drops shower into my pool, making little dips in the otherwise flat surface of the water. Also, the water was dripping from the netting simultaneously with the falling drops.I decided this would be a good time for me to go inside, seeing as the weather looked slightly threatening, and I was inside a metal enclosure...

Hey, Holly I agree with you when you talk about how people can look at something but not really see what is there. I think that people just never stop to relax and look around at their surroundings. The weather in the summer is very strange it can be a clear day with no cloud in the sky and all of a sudden it will be pouring. The rain will then go away as quickly as it comes. Today is weird though it isn't even hot outside, it really doesn't feel like summer. I really like the way you write.
ReplyDeleteHello Holly :] I hate it when you think its a freat beach day so you get all ready then get in the car and it starts to down pour. Everyone knows about that florida whether always unpreditatble. I agree you and Terra how people can look at something and not notice the beauty of it.
ReplyDeleteHeyy!
ReplyDeleteI think that happens to everyone when someone has decent outdoor plans and then the weather goes bad. It's like it does it on purpose haha. I do that alot to, where I walk into my backyard and I just walk by everything and pay no attention to the landscaping. I drove home for this long weekend and I was sitting outside with my dog when I took the time to notice that my mom had just recently put new flowers and everything in the little flower beds. I'm glad I took the time to look at them, because once you actually notice and take the time to look at nature, it's a fairly pretty and peaceful site.

ReplyDeleteIt sucks when you wake up and it looks like a perfect day for the beach then as your about to leave clouds start rolling in and completely ruins your day you had planned! I also have cats that come in my backyard that I feed. Your right it is so nice to just sit outside and listen to the rain and really look around your yard..it seems like it would be very peaceful up until the thunder and lightning come.
ReplyDeletei once lived in a house with a similar covered lanai in the back. this took me right back to a summer day i had planned on spending outdoors, but was forced inside by rain.
